Yom kippur 2017  or the Day of Atonement, is the one holiday that is dedicated to repentance, Yom Kippur  involves a 25-hour fast and a long day of intensive prayer focused on individuals' sins.It is a day which is set aside to "afflict the soul," or to atone for all the sins of the past year. In Days of Awe(Jewish heaven), It is  mentioned that there are  "books" in which God has inscribes all of our names. So This day is, essentially,  is your last appeal or  your last chance to look back and change the judgment, to show your repentance and make amends about it.

Yom Kippur History

According to Yom Kippur tradition, the first of all Yom Kippur took place after the Israelites’ were  exodus from Egypt and they arrived at Mount Sinai, where God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. while Descending from the mountain, Moses saw his people worshipping a golden calf and shattered all the sacred tablets in anger. But the Israelites atoned for their idolatry So God forgave all their sins and offered Moses a second set of tablets.So Since then it is cebrated as the day for asking forgiveness.

  • 1. Yom Kippur is also marked as the last day of Rosh Hashanah which is also known as High Holy days and also the last day of the Jewish calender year so it is like the New year eve.
